Far Horizon
Kestrel Freeholds · Expedition and rescue carrier
A promise with room to turn
Expedition captain
A lean command spine supports staggered outrigger flight decks contributed by independent Freeholds. One shorter, newer wing makes the ship permanently asymmetric—and preserves the memory of a rescue command that went too far.
A voluntary combination of independent flight tenders formed after the high routes reopened.
Distributed flight decks and rescue tenders make the carrier a flexible staging point for difficult regional expeditions.
We return together.
Who has the deck
Siv Rellan, expedition captain. A veteran pathfinder appointed for a defined voyage and its agreed contingencies. She coordinates the flagship’s work with Tavi but has no permanent command over the Freeholds.
The short wing
The near-side outer flight deck is newer and shorter than its partner. Its rail holds the old crews' unclaimed return cloths alongside the names of those who came home.
What it cannot do
The outriggers need careful weather and maintenance planning. Smaller attached ships can move independently; the capital hull cannot slip through every route they can.
A tradition aboard
Each attached crew ties its own return cloth before a departure. The captain’s cloth is no larger than anyone else’s, and the steward records who can release each promise.
Who argues with the captain
Olan Reed — A former tender pilot who records crew commitments and safe handoffs. He challenges both reckless commanders and captains who use consent as an excuse to stop seeking help.
Four eras, one hull
Independent tenders form a shared expedition carrier with separate crew commitments.
An unauthorized second approach rescues a transport and destroys an outer deck on the return.
A deliberately unequal replacement deck accompanies a new limit on expedition command.
A rescue beyond the current mandate tests whether crews can choose a further commitment without coercion.
Aboard
The Return Rail
A sheltered rail of flight cloths, personal promises, and completed rescue tokens from participating crews.
The Open Briefing
A command gallery where the route, risks, and limits of an expedition are presented before crews join it.
The Short-Wing Yard
A compact repair deck with visibly different fittings, maintained by a Freehold that joined after the storm.
